Hot Dots – Talking Pen & Number and Counting Cards

I’ve been sent a great learning tool for kids aged between 3-6yrs. The Hot Dot pen is teamed up with Hot Dot flash cards and kids pick a multiple choice answer from the card and use the pen to self-check if it’s correct or not. A light on the pen glows red for wrong and green for right. It can also play a tune for incorrect and correct answers.

The range of questions in the Numbers & Counting set we received is really extensive. It includes questions like “How Many?” “Which are the same?” “Find the matching number?” and “Which number comes before?” All accompanied by bright colourful pictures. The various levels of learning means this should last us a good long while. I’ve been using them alone as simple flash cards also.

B and his friends have enjoyed using the pen and seeing it light up and make a tune. However he is slightly too young to understand the concept of it right now. I see it being a big hit though, as he is very independent and will enjoy being able to check his answers and keep going till he gets it right.

We’ve had slight problems with the accuracy of the pen, sometimes is lights up correctly and the right music plays, but other times it doesn’t. So that is a bit of an issue, which is a shame.

I’d be keen to buy more of the flash card sets and there are plenty to choose from. Patterns & sequencing, The Alphabet, Beginning Phonetics colours, shapes and many more. They come in a lovely strong box with carry handle too.

A great concept that I’d never seen before, perfect for schools or at home and perfect to take away for long journeys.

Learning Resources are running a competition via facebook to win 1 of 5 sets,  plus the talking pen!!!! So enter here today, closing date it Friday 16th Nov

We received this item free of charge for the purpose of this review but our opinions are completely our own.
